Projects and Events - Friends in the News
Indy Do DayThanks to Indy Do Day and Curran Architecture for coming out to give a helping hand(s!) at Fort Harrison State Park! The team was able to lay SIXTY-FIVE feet of trail in a single morning, and we could not be more excited!
Fort Ben BBQ & Blues FestivalThank you to everyone who attended our BBQ & Blues Festival!
We enjoyed great music provided by John Ford, Queen Delphine and the Crown Jewels, King Bee and the Stingers, and Biscuit Miller and the Mix. Thank you to our sponsors The City of Lawrence, Community Health, Red Hat Dentist, Fort Harrison Reuse Authority, Axia Urban, and Restore Skin Therapy. Thank you also to our food vendors: J & J A Taste of Home, Moo & Lou Frozen Treats, T-N-T Hotdogs, MJ's Backyard BBQ, Da Blue Lagoon & The Garrison. We look forward to seeing you again next year! |
First Day Hike![]() A little rain didn't stop anyone around here from getting their first hike of 2022 in the books!
Volunteers from the Friends of Fort Harrison State Park served hot chocolate, hot apple cider from The Garrison, and cookies to park visitors for the First Day Hike at Fort Harrison State Park! Lots of smiles, laughter, and splashing! Bird HideOver two years ago, we started plans for a bird hide (an area to observe the birds) at the park. We ran into a few setbacks and had to start over. At this time, several gardens have been planted in the area (thanks to Prophetstown State Park and Native Plants Unlimited for the plants) and holes were recently dug where the posts for our structure will be placed. Thank you to the volunteers who have helped weed and water the garden areas throughout the summer. Stay tuned for updates on the structure.
